Bafang-Motor Parts: The Rework Cost of Skipping the 5-Minute Check

The Part That Gets Blamed

The rework was not.

Calculated the worst case: a full redo at $1,200. Best case: save $480. The expected value said go ahead, but the downside felt too big—and I didn't listen to that feeling soon enough. Had two hours to confirm the order before the freight cutoff. Normally I'd check dimensions with engineering, but there was no time. In hindsight, I should have pushed back. Why do these failures keep happening? Because the purchasing process is faster than the verification process. The question isn't 'Can we get this part overnight?' It's 'Do we have a written specification for the system this part goes into?'

What I mean by 'written specification' is a component list with measured clearances, torque values, and checkpoints—not just a part number. The part number tells you what the part is. It doesn't tell you whether it belongs in this particular assembly.

The 5-Minute Check That Pays

Prevention isn't a complicated process. It's a checklist. Five minutes of verification beats five days of correction. After my third mistake, I created a pre-order checklist for every component that touches a powered drivetrain:
